Nordzucker uses a wide network of beet growers and other suppliers.
    To drive sustainable improvements throughout
this supply chain, we work in partnership with
our beet growers and other suppliers to raise awareness of
    best practice.
We strive to make the process of sugar
    extraction from beet increasingly efficient
and sustainable. This involves using natural
resources as efficiently as possible, as well
    as reducing energy consumption.
Nordzucker is both a European and local company,
based primarily in the rural countryside. We aim
to give all our colleagues a rewarding, healthy
working environment, where everyone has the
opportunity to develop and realise potential.
As a food producer, we see it as our responsibility
to work together with our customers, suppliers and
beet growers, so we can help to develop shared
sustainability Standards and promote a wider
    awareness of them.

“Growing together”: Ensuring sustainability along the entire value chain

Sustainability is a top priority for Nordzucker. As a food producer, sustainable thinking and acting are a natural part of our daily business. Environmental and social considerations are major factors in our decision-making.

In doing so, we always have the development of our value chain in a sustainable way in mind. This is also the focus of our work with our 2030 Sustainability plan where we also address our contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Our aim is to continually optimize it together with our suppliers, service providers, employees and customers. Traceability, quality and reliability as well as demanding social and ethical standards provide a guarantee for our customers that they have found the right partner in us. We want to grow with our stakeholders all along our value chain and to continually improve every aspect of our performance together.

Reducing our energy consumption as well as our CO2 emissions have been important components of our sustainability strategy for a long time. Looking at the current development within climate we are taking steps to accelerate our work towards a fossil fuel free future in line with the Paris Agreement. We are increasingly continue to have a strong focus on our working with suppliers audits to document and improve our sustainability approach . The aim here is to and ensure sustainability along the entire value chain.

Together with our farmers in Europe, we are focusing on profitability as well as improving the efficiency and sustainability of beet cultivation. As part of this, and we have implemented the SAI (Sustainable Agriculture Initiative) platform framework for sustainable agriculture (FSA) at all our growers at minimum silver level. We continue to are actively engage ourselves d in the further development and application of the SAI of the framework (Sustainable Agricultural Initiative). Additionally, we continue to develop our supplier audit concepts to ensure that we apply the same standards are extremely important when it comes to sugar that we import from countries outside the EU as well as inside., because in these countries the environmental and social standards are often at a different level compared to the EU.

Our social commitment can clearly be seen from the activities we have in place at our sites, from the responsible stance we take as an employer and from the cooperation with our partners in rural areas. We also take the discussion about the role of sugar in our diet very seriously and provide information on this topic.

Our primary objective is to be a proven sustainable and reliable partner for our customers and to satisfy the wide range of environmental and social requirements. You will find evidence of performance that demonstrates our dedication to sustainability on this website. We have placed an emphasis on making our challenges, strategies and objectives transparent and clearly documenting the continuous improvement in our company’s sustainability. We have used lots of data, figures and facts from along the value chain, accompanied by several featured stories, to present you with the broad range of our sustainability activities.
