“Growing together”: Ensuring sustainability along the entire value chain
Sustainability is a top priority for Nordzucker. As a food producer, sustainable thinking and acting are a natural part of our daily business. Environmental and social considerations are major factors in our decision-making.
In doing so, we always have the development of our value chain in a sustainable way in mind. This is also the focus of our work with our 2030 Sustainability plan where we also address our contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Our aim is to continually optimize it together with our suppliers, service providers, employees and customers. Traceability, quality and reliability as well as demanding social and ethical standards provide a guarantee for our customers that they have found the right partner in us. We want to grow with our stakeholders all along our value chain and to continually improve every aspect of our performance together.
Reducing our energy consumption as well as our CO2 emissions have been important components of our sustainability strategy for a long time. Looking at the current development within climate we are taking steps to accelerate our work towards a fossil fuel free future in line with the Paris Agreement. We are increasingly continue to have a strong focus on our working with suppliers audits to document and improve our sustainability approach . The aim here is to and ensure sustainability along the entire value chain.
Together with our farmers in Europe, we are focusing on profitability as well as improving the efficiency and sustainability of beet cultivation. As part of this, and we have implemented the SAI (Sustainable Agriculture Initiative) platform framework for sustainable agriculture (FSA) at all our growers at minimum silver level. We continue to are actively engage ourselves d in the further development and application of the SAI of the framework (Sustainable Agricultural Initiative). Additionally, we continue to develop our supplier audit concepts to ensure that we apply the same standards are extremely important when it comes to sugar that we import from countries outside the EU as well as inside., because in these countries the environmental and social standards are often at a different level compared to the EU.
Our social commitment can clearly be seen from the activities we have in place at our sites, from the responsible stance we take as an employer and from the cooperation with our partners in rural areas. We also take the discussion about the role of sugar in our diet very seriously and provide information on this topic.
